CDC Publishes New Guidelines On What Fully Vaccinated People Can Enjoy, But Experts Worry About Vaccine Hesitancy

The warmer weather is upon us. And CDC has given us cause to rejoice. The agency has published its new recommendations for fully vaccinated Americans. They can now enjoy some of the pre-pandemic activities without wearing a mask. Health professionals, on the other hand, are concerned of the declining interest in vaccination in some parts of the country.

CDC Publishes New Guidelines On What Fully Vaccinated People Can Enjoy, But Experts Worry About Vaccine Hesitancy

According to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and prevention), fully vaccinated persons are those who have passed 14 days after receiving the two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines. It can also be for those who have passed two weeks after receiving the single-dose J&J vaccine. They are free to dine outdoors along with friends; the agency announced on Tuesday.

They can even go for small gatherings without wearing masks along with friends and family. They may also mingle with unvaccinated people.

The announcement comes in the light of the studies which suggest that transmission of the virus happens mostly in the indoors. The percentage of such an instance here is just 10%. The same is 20 times higher in the indoors. Furthermore, the country’s 37% of the population above 18 years of age is fully vaccinated. And the number of infections is coming down. This is the reasons that motivated the agency to make such an announcement.

Even then, fully vaccinated people should wear masks in crowded outdoor gatherings and in indoor spaces like restaurants. The recommendations will be there until the entire country is vaccinated, says CDC.

As per statistics, over 29% of the US population is now fully vaccinated. They are relatively free now with liberal options in overseas travel. But the officials now are concerned of an unfortunate situation.

The rate of vaccination has either plateaued or declined in some parts of the country. This, according to them, endangers the chances of attaining herd immunity or stopping this pandemic. At least 75% of the people need to attain immunity either through vaccination or through previous infection to reach herd immunity. But reports warn of a tipping point in the nation’s eagerness to get vaccinated. And as per CDC, lesser number of people is showing interest in vaccination than those wanting to get their second dose. Experts predict that it is going to be a strong wall of vaccine hesitancy. There are also those who predict that America will run out of its demand for vaccine within a few weeks. 58% of the country’s population is vaccinated or is willing to receive vaccination. 28% is hesitant. Some say they will wait a while before receiving the jab. Others say that they will get it only if required. 14% says that they are not going to get it anytime soon.

When it comes to the religious groups in the country, white evangelists are the most reluctant to receive the shot. 17% of the country’s population belongs to this group. Furthermore, Democrats are more open to vaccination when compared with the Independents or the Republicans. 73% of Democrats say they have received at least one dose of the vaccine or they will get it at the earliest. This is 58% among the Independents. And it is 45% among the Republicans.

In the meantime, many States have resumed administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The CDC and FDA had lifted the pause they recommended for the same on Friday. They also said that they will update their recommendations to minimize the instances of blood clots. There may be a link between the J&J vaccine. But its benefits outweigh the risks. Even then, doctors recommend utmost precaution when vaccinating children. They will benefit from safety measures; experts observe.
